AFTER CARE
Please read through thoroughly after an appointment to protect your skin and art
Keep It Clean: Wash your hands thoroughly then gently wash the tattoo with warm water and a non-scented anti-bacterial soap like liquid gold dial. Avoid scrubbing or using a washcloth. Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel.
Apply Ointment: After cleaning, apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare ointment like Lubaderm, Goldbond, and Nivea. Avoid heavy application, as the tattoo needs to breathe. Avoid petroleum based products like Aquaphor due to them clogging your pores not allowing it to breath.
Keep It Moisturized: Continue to apply a thin layer of lotion or ointment 2-3 times a day for the first few weeks. Keep the tattoo well-moisturized but not overly greasy.
Avoid Picking and Scratching: It’s natural for the tattoo to flake and peel a bit. Don’t pick at or scratch the tattoo, as this can lead to scarring and affect the healing process.
Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds. Sun exposure can fade the ink and damage the healing skin. Once healed, use high SPF sunscreen on the tattoo to protect the colors.
Wear Loose Clothing: If possible, wear loose clothing over the tattooed area to avoid irritation and friction. Tight clothing can cause the tattoo to rub and potentially lead to issues with healing.
Avoid Immersion: For the first few weeks, avoid soaking the tattoo in water. This means no swimming, hot tubs, or baths. Showers are fine, but try to keep the tattoo area out of direct water flow as much as possible.
Stay Hydrated and Healthy: Drinking plenty of water and maintaining a healthy diet can support the healing process.
Watch for Signs of Infection: While some redness and swelling are normal, watch for signs of infection, such as increased redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or fever. If you suspect an infection, contact me.
Pet Dandruff: Even though we love our animals and consider them clean, pets carry bacteria on their tongue and fur that can infect the tattoo. Try to avoid any direct contact with animals. If you suspect they have come in contact with your tattoo wash it immediately.
